Vice President at Colliers International is Named Top 40 Under 40

Flex buildings bring together the stylish amenities of a high-end office with the utilitarian qualities of a warehouse, making them a versatile option for traditional, startup, and research and development companies alike.

Boyle, a vice president in the Carlsbad office of commercial real estate company Colliers International, has found a professional niche in new industrial and creative flex development. In the past five years, he's helped bring some 835,000 square feet of these spaces to San Diego's North County.

"It's functional while still having all the bells and whistles," Boyle said. "Commercial space becomes a part of the vision for a company. We meet a lot of growing and millennial-owned businesses that want to project an image and a brand."

Boyle and his Colliers International colleagues are representing Badiee Development in leasing Carlsbad Innovate, a new 50,150-square-foot Class A adaptive flex industrial building in the Carlsbad Oaks North business park. Tenants, so far, include diabetic predictive health company Zense and commercial drywall contractor The Berg Group.

Boyle has been with Colliers International for a decade, after about three years with Cushman & Wakefield. He represents a portfolio of more than 1.75 million square feet of multi-tenant industrial and R&D properties, and he has closed transactions totaling more than $231 million, according to Colliers International.

His major clients have included Sunroad Enterprises, SR Commercial Realty, Rexford Industrial Realty, Peregrine Realty Partners, and RPG, formerly known as RAF Pacifica Group.

"The most important part of the business is people," Boyle said. "I work with some amazing people who have helped me succeed. You always try to do what's best for your clients, including finding new and innovative strategies. There's a lot of risk and a lot of opportunity."

Before following some college friends into the commercial real estate industry, Boyle was a decorated captain in the U.S. Army. He served two tours in Iraq, including as a tank platoon leader in Baghdad. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from the private liberal arts university Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he also played Division III Intercollegiate football.
