There is a serious possibility that a large number of office buildings are closed in 2023. More than 10% of Dutch office space does not yet have an energy efficiency rating C or better, while this is a necessity to remain open after January 2023. In addition, 38% does not even have a rating at all. Together this concerns 27.5 million square meters, equal to the fifteen largest office cities combined. Utrecht stands out positively with more than 80% of office space that meets the new requirements. Hengelo scores last with 29%.
