Colliers – a great place to nurture young, emerging talents

Utilising young, emerging talent is a fundamental at Colliers. We have a strong demographic of young leaders that we foster closely by equipping them with industry leading knowledge, exposing them to a collaborative culture, and empowering them to be enterprising to lead our industry into the future. Hear from Adam Clift of Valuation & Advisory Services as he reflects on his time so far at Colliers as he discusses how collaboration has helped him integrate into the business, not just at a department level, but across the whole office.

How did you get into real estate?

I was aware of the industry from a very young age. My dad was a chartered surveyor in the UK and was approached to come and work in Hong Kong which changed my life completely. Exposure to a new environment, a distinct way of life, being surrounded by iconic buildings, and a unique property market led me to being drawn to the real estate profession.

I studied urban planning and property development at university and wanted to continue to work in the built and natural environment. That’s why I joined Colliers as a Graduate Trainee after graduation.

Have you enjoyed being in the real estate industry so far, and why?

Very much so - the work that I’ve been exposed to so far has been very diverse and interesting. Working in a market like Hong Kong is full of challenges and complex cases, which has meant that my day-to-day work is always interesting and tests my creativity.

Tell us more your experience with Colliers.

The biggest thing so far at Colliers, is the wide range of projects I’ve had exposure to. Having worked on data centre projects, coworking and innovative building studies, to more traditional jobs such as portfolio valuations, I’ve constantly been encouraged to explore new areas of the industry and broaden my skills.

Over the last two years, I’ve enjoyed being a member of the Young Leaders’ Committee. This has included organising Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, the annual Christmas party, a Movember campaign to raise money for men’s mental health, and various Lunch & Learn sessions, with a lot more lined for this year!

For me, doing what’s right for our community is a very fulfilling part of my role and Colliers empowers me to give back to the community. CSR should not start and finish in the workplace, it should be something that we all actively look to engage in.

I am also part of the recently formed Data Centre Focus Group, which has given me great exposure to the market, allowing me to meet some high-profile clients. On top of that, I am fortunate to work with a very collaborative, and social team that have made Colliers an exciting place to work.

What’s your personal passion?

I am trying to get a Colliers cricket team up and running. I’ve also started collecting and restoring old Gameboys – something to do indoors on a scorching hot day!
