157-acre island includes a large private main house with a further six guest properties, boathouse and helipad
Horse Island was launched on the Irish and International markets by Callum Bain of Colliers International Dublin in conjunction with Ron Krueger of Engle & Volker, Kinsale Co Cork on the instructions of the owner. In February 2020, the appointed selling agents issued an asking price of €5.5 million in respect of Horse Island, just prior to the lockdown enforced by the Covid-19 Pandemic. The selling agents recorded considerable interest from all corners of the globe, particularly the USA, Asia, continental Europe and the United Kingdom, resulting in two parties bidding for the property.
Callum Bain of Colliers International Country and Residential said: Horse Island is one of very few well developed privately owned islands off the coast of Ireland. We are delighted with the outcome of the marketing program and take this opportunity to wish the new owner peaceful enjoyment of this very special part of Ireland.
Ron Krueger of Engle & Volkers, Managing Director said: Horse Island is a wonderful tranquil location and it has been a privilege to be involved in the sale of the island on two occasions, firstly to the vendor and then for the vendor.
The purchaser of Horse Island, was facilitated by Thomas Balashev of the Mayfair-based real estate broker Montague Real Estate, who was first instructed to source a suitable island for the buyer in December 2019, and Alex Robinson of Knight Frank Private Office in London, who introduced the buyers agent to Colliers in Dublin.
The 157-acre island boasts a natural, rugged landscape including three sandy beaches populated by seals, farming pastures and extensive natural wildlife.
Seven luxury properties occupy the island, including a six-bedroom main house, two three-bedroom guest houses, two two-bedroom guest houses and two one-bedroom cottages. All the properties have views over the Atlantic Sea and Roaring Water Bay, where guests can swim and scuba dive amongst dolphins.
Further luxury amenities found on Horse Island include a private pier for mooring ferries and private boats, a games and gym house and tennis court.
Entirely self-contained, the island also has its own electricity, water and sewage systems, as well as private roads providing access to all areas of the island.
